Synopsis
May 1967. Filmmaker Michèle Firk leaves a letter ‘to be opened in case of emergency’. She joins the Guatemalan guerrilla movement, whose members she had met in Cuba during the Tricontinental Conference, a project for a united front of the ‘Third World’. Firk never finished her film. Nor, for that matter, did the Tricontinental Conference. Sixty years later, a Swiss filmmaker sets out in search of these absences.

At its Belgian premiere, the documentary by Baptiste Janon and Rémi Pons won the award for Best Socially Engaged Film in the national competition.
The jury’s verdict:
The jury celebrates Andrès for the strength of its storytelling and its powerful portraits, giving voice and face to the truck drivers we rarely see. By living alongside them and letting them speak in the third person through Andrés, the directors reveal the harsh realities of their work and daily lives. The film shines a light on conditions far too often invisible.
‘Les vies d'Andrès’ is in competition at the Millenium Festival in Brussels! We are delighted about this new milestone for Baptiste Janon and Rémi Pons’ documentary, not least because it marks the film’s Belgian premiere – a country with which we co-produced the film. The directors will be in attendance to present the film on 1 April at 7.45 pm.
