Reflets

A short documentary by Francesca Scalisi and Mark Olexa

Synopsis

The face is the reflection of the soul, and music moves it, consoles it, awakens it, envelops it. In a home in Switzerland, a choir brightens up the days and the hearts of the elderly residents. The power of music can be seen on the faces, marked by time, which the camera observes, caresses, slowly and delicately, without words, through a window that evokes both the reality of the isolation of old age, the distance of the time that has passed, and the fragility, the sensitivity, that the music touches. The expressive and musical variations, the inner resonances of the song, are captured with subtlety and modesty, revealing a joy marked by gravity and restraint. The superimpositions of images created through the play of reflections and the transparency of the glass give this film a visual richness that evokes the complex layers of time and memory at the end of life.
